Forced into exile: The fate of illegally traded wildlife

Despite Singaporeans being typically law-abiding, there is burgeoning illegal wildlife trade happening right here, right now. When these animals are confiscated from their traders, they are brought to ACRES (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society) where they will likely spend the remainder of their lives in captivity. Repatriation back to their native habitat is extremely difficult with no guarantee that these animals will not be trafficked again. With all that ACRES has done in the past 19 years, they find themselves falling short of public and government support to run the rescue centre and crackdown on online wildlife trade. Is the lack of support because these animals are not cute or cuddly? Or is it because their existence is less valued than humans? Read here for more.
