The rival apps are encrypted and private messaging service providers that are are quickly gaining popularity in light of WhatsApp’s fierce controversy regarding its new terms and conditions. A “refuge” of sorts, Telegram and Signal have become reassuring beacons of privacy in a time where privacy is a luxury instead of a fundamental human right. Telegram is infamous for refusing to cooperate with authorities and hand over encryption keys, giving users confidence in private communication.
