Is the “hustle culture” that youth are embracing truly worth celebrating?
“Don’t stop hustling.” “Keep grinding.” “Sleep is for the weak.” Do these statements ring a bell?
Hustlers, grinders, the exemplars of our society. We look up and yearn to be like them one day. The ones who work overtime, stay up until the wee hours to get work done, juggle between multiple jobs and side hustle. Never mind if you skip a meal or forgo an important occasion. In fact, it seems that the more hours of work clocked, the more celebrated you are. This culture of hustling has slowly become pervasive in today’s society, serving as a benchmark to one’s productivity and ability. In particular, youth these days are especially eager to jump on the bandwagon of the hustle culture. This begs the question as to whether is it truly healthy to embrace such a culture?
