This new, invite-only social media app allows users to listen in on someone else’s phone call, legally. It is like tuning in to a podcast but live. Once the conversation is over, the room is closed.

To join Clubhouse, you first need to be invited by an existing user- with only two invites available. Real world elitism, but make it virtual. What’s more, it’s only available for iPhone users.

As of 1 February 2021, Clubhouse has 2 million users, partly thanks to Elon Musk. By popping up in a Clubhouse room last week, he has maxed out the app’s conversation room limits and brought the service a lot of attention. Clubhouse is now a Unicorn valued at $1 billion.

The creators have announced that their 2021 goal is to eventually “open up Clubhouse to the whole world” and we can definitely expect to see more viral moments on Clubhouse.
