Electrifying Singapore’s roads

Singapore plans to install 600 electric vehicle (EV) chargers in public carparks within the year. This is the first of the 40,000 charging points islandwide, projected to complete by 2030. Announced this week by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the investment in EV infrastructure is a push to increase electric vehicle ownership via convenience appeals.

The pilot tender – where firms bid to take on the project – is won by ComfortDelGro Engineering and Engie South East Asia (now in charge of Singapore’s Central, East and West regions). Other companies, Primech A&P, Charge+, Sunseap Group, and Oyika are also in the market for the country’s North and North-East regions.

Electric vehicles reduce emissions & energy costs. The transition to cleaner energy means Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles will be phased out. With its EV charging network, Singapore is well on its way to becoming an “electric garden”.
