You might no longer need to marry so early for BTO application

MP Louis Chua proposed to lower the minimum age requirement for single BTO applicants to 28 instead of the current 35 threshold. He argued that this would help the government to better serve the needs for housing of Singaporeans and reinforce HDB’s mission to be inclusive and embrace diversity. This also aligns with the trend that Singaporeans now are marrying at a higher age on average. Moreover, as the waiting time may take up to almost 6 years, a lower eligible age would also enable singles to move in by the time they are ready to get married and live independently from their parents.

Ministry of National Development has been conducting planning review among the residents and monitoring the situations to take neccessary actions. Besides their effort in increasing supply of public housing, the government urges Singaporeans to express their opinions, especially as part of the Forward Singapore Exercise launched by the next 4G leaders.
