SimplyGo’s Implementation: Not as Simple as it Seems

The Singapore government has postponed the complete adoption of the SimplyGo payment system for adult public transport fares. SimplyGo was initially set to be fully rolled out on June 1.

This move came not too long after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced about two weeks ago that card-based ticketing cards – NETSFlashPay and Ez-link non-concession adult cards which have not been upgraded to SimplyGo, could no longer be used for public transport payment on June 1.

Commuters have since raised concerns and criticisms. For instance, using SimplyGo renders them unable to view their remaining balance in their stored-value card, and how much fare was deducted at MRT gantries and in buses.

Additionally, following the LTA announcement, many commuters who tried to upgrade their EZ-link cards to SimplyGo-compatible card experienced delays in their attempts.

This move is expected to cost the government $40 million, and it is still unclear as to how long this postponement will last.
