Newborn Trafficking Ring Exposed: Indonesian Group Purchased Babies on Facebook
A human trafficking ring involving newborn babies was busted in Depok, West Java, Indonesia. The group’s modus operandi was to purchase babies on Facebook from local parents who either could not or chose not to care for them. The babies were then trafficked into Bali and resold at a much higher price. Foreign nationals were identified as the group’s key potential buyers. While five such transactions were found to be completed, only eight individuals are in custody. The investigation is ongoing with police suspecting the group’s operations could stretch beyond Bali.
