Can’t get enough of those beach vibes? Moving to Pasir Ris could be an option.

Build-To-Order (BTO) projects are now designed and built in accordance to themes that are distinct to the place they are located in. For those missing their last seaside holiday, Pasir Ris is to be styled in the “resort town by the sea” theme. Mangrove themed playgrounds and wayfinding motifs with mudskippers and kingfishers are in the works, complementing existing designs such as circular porthole openings and lighthouse turret corners on older HDBs. This is to give each town a distinct feel and unique character.

History and heritage comes to the fore in other places too such as in Tanglin Halt, where upcoming BTO projects will have bridges linking each block to form an 800m running track. These bridges take inspiration from truss bridges, a key part of the area’s history as it is near the Rail Corridor and once housed the Keretapi Tanah Melayu railway.

Experts hope that this builds a “cohesive town with strong identity for residents”, and more towns are set to benefit from this scheme in the next few years.
