The First $2,000 iPhone Is Here : Luxury or Madness?
Among Apple’s newly unveiled iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone 17 Pro Max (2TB model) has drawn attention as the most expensive iPhone ever, priced at $2,000. The new 2TB option is aimed at content creators and professionals who handle large video and multimedia files, differentiating Apple from competitors like Samsung and Google, whose smartphones currently max out at 1TB of storage. This pricing strategy reflects Apple’s effort to boost profitability by raising the average selling price at a time when unit sales have stagnated. In particular, the iPhone Air is expected to drive ASP growth, with its price set $100 higher than last year’s iPhone 16 Plus.
Analysts note that while economic uncertainty is dampening demand for lower-end smartphones, Pro models continue to account for a larger share of sales in the U.S. The new iPhones also feature improvements in battery life, camera performance, heat dissipation, and chip efficiency, with Apple emphasizing that the September launch event was filmed entirely on an iPhone 17 Pro. Market forecasts suggest that preorders for the new lineup will rise by 5–10% compared to last year, partly due to the significant share of global iPhone owners who haven’t upgraded in over four years.
