The Cold War Part II, now with planets

The historic rivalry between the United States and Russia looks to continue beyond the 21st century, with the solar system as the new battleground of the future. NASA, US’s space agency, has targeted 2030 as the year when we could reasonably see the very first set of boots on Mars – something the Russians were uncharacteristically unconcerned about… well, until recently. The chief of the Russian space agency Roscosmos has boldly claimed Venus as a Russian territory even before setting a single foot on the planet, in a move that could only be described as ‘audacious, with a dab of vodka’.
