Central Banks worldwide turn to crypto experts to issue digital currencies
Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), which run on Blockchain technology, have grown in prominence across various countries. CBDCs have the power to streamline and digitize money movement across the economy while eliminating inefficiencies that come with monetary policy implementation. The surge in demand of CBDCs took off especially after the world’s 2nd largest economy, China, successfully created its digital version of the Yuan.
Central Banks that have actively started exploring this space are leveraging the expertise of crypto enthusiasts to design the digital currencies. Crypto consultants, engineers, and academics are increasingly being entrusted with treasury and legislative responsibilities as part of the development of CBDCs. Smaller economies like The Bahamas and Cambodia are more aggressive in their efforts to partner with crypto experts.
However, with any new venture comes a series of hurdles and potential risks that countries need to grapple with. While CBDCs can effectively revolutionize the traditional monetary system, Central Banks will need to consider how to overcome the various regulatory, security, and logistical issues.
