Chunk of glacier larger than Paris collapses
In a process known as calving, 113 square kilometres of the Arctic’s largest ice shelf broke off. While larger than normal, scientists say that this was expected given the rising average temperatures. Furthermore, the melting and refreezing of water creates additional pressure on the glacier, exacerbating the process.
