Death to the monarchy
For the first time in Thailand’s history, an estimated 10,000 anti-government protestors gathered at its capital, Bangkok, calling out for reformation of the country’s military-backed monarchy.
Inspired by the Hunger Games movie, protesters flashed the three-fingered salute, which has now become a symbol of defiance against the Thai government.
Thailand’s monarchy was long considered God-like, protected by a strict lese-majeste law which forbids anyone from insulting the monarchy.
However, increasing dissatisfaction towards the country’s ruling military junta and the King’s moral authority has resulted in youth-led protests that spread across the nation.
