Chinese startup DeepSeek launches its latest artificial intelligence model, spooking global markets as share prices of big US tech companies like Nvidia plunge. DeepSeek, founded in 2023 by Liang Wenfeng, sought to achieve self-sufficiency in industries like AI amidst bans that prohibited Nvidia chips from being sold to Chinese companies.
