More crocodiles slaughtered as a result of sick pigs

In Thailand, the demand for crocodile meat continues to rise in recent months following a sharp increase in the price of pork. Currently, a kilo of crocodile meat costs almost 100 baht cheaper (SGD 4) than pork. This is great news for crocodile farmers, as more people have turned to the reptilian protein that is also supposedly “tastier”. The increased price of pork comes after an initially unreported outbreak of the African Swine Fever that has wiped out thousands of pigs in Thailand. The viral disease has also been reported to have severely affected the pork industry of neighbouring countries since 2018. Click here to find out more on how Thailand’s Pork Industry is coping.
