‘My Crazy Obsession’: Singaporeans and their toys

The start of September was greeted with a spark of electrifying power – the release of McDonald’s Pikachu carrier.
These limited-edition carriers attracted customers from all over the island and were wiped out by the evening at a number of McDonald’s outlets.
With collectors’ frenzy at a high, Singapore had seen some unruly behaviour and heated arguments between customers in the past, like when McDonald’s had launched a 40-day Wedding Design Hello Kitty toy promotion in 2000 and Hello Kitty in fairy tale costumes in 2013.
This time, McDonald’s came prepared with a ticketing system to help manage crowd capacity and advise on the number of carriers left.
As I finish concluding this article, the 257th seller had probably listed their Pikachu carrier on Carousell, going at an amusing price of $50.
Talk about a rare Pokémon.
