NTUC Collaborate with Schools to Extend Support to Youth Entering Workforce

While the National Trade Union Congress focuses majorly on vulnerable low-wage earners, it plans to expand its reach to youth entering the workforce and women workers juggling family responsibilities. NTUC aims to work with schools to ensure the experience gained by students goes just beyond the mandatory internship requirement with union officers mentoring students on potential career paths. It also hopes to provide flexible working arrangements to female workers who have household responsibilities.

The labor movement is setting out this goal in response to the faster-than-usual increase in the cost of living in Singapore slowly recouping from the economic stress by Covid-19. Further, NTUC is also exploring to ensure that industries that are still struggling due to the pandemic like the tourism and hospitality industry can benefit from sector-wide capabilities to be taught at these academies. The NTUC FairPrice supermarket will announce measures to help workers cope with increasing costs.
