Over 200 Victims Falls For Scams Resulting Half a Million Down The Drain
In the first two weeks of 2024, 219 victims of DBS users had fallen for the phishing scam through unsolicited SMSes bearing short codes, overseas or local calls resulting S$ 446,000 lost. The victim were warned about their “possible unauthorised attemps” to have access to their bank accounts. Then victims were instructed to click on the links to verify their identities which resulted in giving access to the One-Time-Passcodes (OTPs). Accessible to the information, unauthorized withdrawals were made.
