Peace talks? Or are we straying further from global peace?
The ongoing peace talks in Paris have revealed the motivations of countries involved and may have implications on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Meeting up with Polish President Karol Nawrocki during an arrival ceremony at the South Portico, Trump established that he has no plans to reduce or remove US troops stationed in Poland and would even increase U.S. presence there if requested. This comes despite rumours and speculations about possible reductions of U.S. troops in the country to monitor key developments in the Indo-Pacific region more closely.
French President Emmanuel Macron also assures Ukraine President Zelenskyy that Europe awaits the outcome of the peace talks and is prepared to aid Ukraine in providing security guarantees to its people.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin instead calls for Zelenskyy to come to Moscow for peace talks about the war, but Ukraine declines Putin’s offer, as has been the pattern.
Thus, the current political climate surrounding Russia and Ukraine still remains heavily uncertain as peace talks continue.
