Potterheads discover another “Unforgivable Curse” in new Harry Potter game

Just last week Avalanche Software’s ambitious single player Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy broke record views on Twitch. Yet amidst the hype of its release, debates regarding J.K. Rowling’s views towards the Transgender community have resurfaced.

Since Rowling’s contentious comments regarding Transgender individuals, fans have found it difficult to separate the media from its creator. Some have been calling for continued boycotting of the franchise, going so far as to demonise streamers who have opted to play the game despite the controversy.

Developers’ claims regarding Rowling’s minimal involvement in the game’s production has done little to quell the flames as social media continues to be split between opinions of playing the game simply as a fan or being a passive supporter of Rowling’s anti-transgender agenda.
