Presidential Hopeful Tan Kin Lian faces criticism over social media posts
President Hopeful Tan Kin Lian is facing criticism over several of his Facebook posts. The posts contain references to “pretty girls”, “pretty joggers”, and “pretty slim girls” – comments that have drawn strong criticism by netizens and women’s organization AWARE.
The former NTUC Income chief has responded to these comments, saying that most viewers found these posts to be “light” and “quite enjoyable”.
The Presidential Election Committee (PEC) has issued a statement addressing these concerns – stating that it was not aware of these posts, and that the certification of eligibility issued to Mr Tan does not constitute an endorsement of such posts.
It remains to be seen how these developments will affect the upcoming Presidential Election set to be contested by Mr Tan, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Mr Ng Kok Song.
